2026 Zeitler Fellowship

People ages 22-32 are eligible for the Zeitler Fellowship.

Priority application deadline: April 21

NHC's flagship program,  Summer Institute brings together Jews from across North America to envision a joyful grassroots Judaism and provide the tools to help them create empowered Jewish lives and communities.  The week includes serious study, moving prayer, spirited conversation, late-night jam sessions, singing, dancing, swimming, meditation, and hiking — all in the company over 150  people from a wide range of backgrounds.

At the Summer Institute, every teacher is also a student and every student is also a teacher.  And people who rarely take active leadership roles in their communities discover that they, too, can teach and contribute to the community.

Fellows participate in the full Summer Institute programming, and in four workshops designed specifically for them. The Fellowship provides a supportive cohort from which to experience all that Institute has to offer and  includes opportunities for Fellows to reflect on building, sustaining, and participating in their Jewish communities outside of the NHC. In addition, each Zeitler Fellow will be paired with a mentor, a returning Institute participant who shares similar interests and can support the Fellow in getting the most out of the Institute.

Zeitler Fellows pay only NHC dues of $60. The fellowship covers tuition, room, and board for the NHC Summer Institute. To apply for the Zeitler Fellowship, you must be between the ages of 22 and 32, interested in exploring lay-led, participatory, independent Jewish community, and willing to participate fully in the Summer Institute. Jews of Color and Jews with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Preference is given to first-time Institute attendees.

Submit your application by April 21 (priority deadline) or May 21 (regular deadline).  Priority applicants will hear back by April 28; regular applicants by early June.
