What the Artist-in-Residence Does
The Timbrel Artist-in-Residence will teach a class that meets for four 90-minute sessions. Attendees pre-register for classes and most classes are capped at 20 participants.
The Artist-in-Residence will also work with the planning team to create additional community programming throughout the week.
What the Artist-in-Residence Receives
The Artist-in-Residence will recieve free registration, room and board (in a double occupancy room) at Summer Institute. They also receive a stipend of $1,000 plus a budget for materials and travel expenses.
Details
Artists from any discipline are encouraged to apply.
In additon to teaching a class, the Artist-in-Residence will work with the planning committee to produce programing throughtout the week. This programming should be designed to reach people beyond the approximately 20 people who register for your course. There are approximately 300 attendees at Summer Institute, ranging in age from babies to seniors.
Some examples of the shape this might take are: an activity with around 30 kids in our children's program, a collaborative project that the community works on throughout the week, a performance, an exhibition, a talk about your work; a one hour drop-in workshop for around 20 people, a segment during our opening plenary session, or anything else you can imagine.
Tips
A successful application will:
1. Integrate this year’s theme into your course proposal.
2. Highlight your experience as an artist/teacher.
3. Propose a course that allows participants to learn an exciting artistic skill. If possible, the course will culminate in a piece that the participants can present to the community and/or take home with them.
4. Include Jewish content or themes in the course proposal.
