Call for Proposals: Liturgist in Residence 2012

The National Havurah Committee is seeking applicants who wish to be considered for the position of Liturgist in Residence at the 2012 Summer Institute. The Liturgist in Residence will offer a series of special programs related to creative liturgy and ritual at the 2012 NHC Summer Institute. These programs will be open to the entire community and will be equivalent to teacher-level service (approximately 6 to 8 contact hours). Programming may include multi-session special workshops, innovative prayer experiences, an evening or Shabbat program, a program for kids or teens, or some combination or variation of these to fulfill the service hours required.

Interested applicants should submit a proposal of approximately 300-500 words describing how he/she would share his/her talents in creating and understanding ritual or liturgy, new liturgical melodies, experiential prayer, or other topics in creative or innovative Jewish prayer with the NHC community. The proposal should outline each session or activity to be offered, and mention the amount of time, activities, texts and desired outcomes for each. Proposals to teach basic skills (reading Hebrew, running a learner's minyan, chanting Haftarah or Torah trop, weekday nusach, etc.) or to exclusively teach one's own original liturgical melodies without some context as described above will not be considered.
