Shabbat
Conveying a sense of Shabbat and community to the children is up to each of us. Our annual gathering is a wonderful opportunity to experience Shabbat as a truly inspiring and reinvigorating experience that is often different from Shabbat in our every day lives.
We welcome Shabbat as a community of parents and children at our Children’s Shabbat Dinner. Please sign up during the week to participate in this dinner, which is especially helpful for families with younger children who cannot wait until the later dinner. We end the family dinner in time for the community-wide Kabbalat Shabbat gathering. This is a small meal just for the children, parents should not plan to eat dinner at this time. Additionally, any children who will be attending the larger community Shabbat Dinner may choose to join us for this meal, but it is designed for those who will be going to back to the dorms after services and before the larger dinner.
Shabbatmorning begins with a fun, participatory Shabbat Family Service and Bibliodrama and Shabbat Singing. Following that, we encourage children who would enjoy to participate in services to do so with their parents. There will be supervised activities outside and quiet activities inside with NHC babysitters, Aileen, and parent volunteers following the Shabbat morning activities, from 11:30am-12:30pm.
We ask parents and other members of the community to offer some time during Saturday morning. Volunteer contributions to the children’s Shabbat program make Shabbat at the Institute as pleasant and meaningful for the children as for the adults. If you are willing to volunteer an hour of time on Shabbat morning, please email NHCKidsCamp@gmail.com.
